SIUA INUvation was a nationwide incubator in Greenland, established in December 2016. SIUA was a place to grow and nurture small and medium sized Greenlandic companies, to foster and support innovation and facilitate export opportunities and growth.
Kisserup Arctic and TLS Ressourcer won the bid to design and operate the Incubator. Based on a two-to-three-year timeframe, the SIUA Incubator coordinated a variety of activities to engage, educate and empower Greenlandic entrepreneurs and provide detailed assistance to build the capacity to grow and develop their business, with an overarching focus on becoming export ready. Entrepreneurs were classified into three tiers based on their current level of development, and were provided with focused assistance, resources and mentoring specific to their needs and goals in order to advance to the next level of development. The incubator was established with critical cultural sensitivity, by contracting a local designer the tiers established were tied to cultural heritage and cross-cultural understanding:
Project outcomes included an increased number of SMEs enrolled in government assistance programs in Greenland, a created benchmark of the required tools for SMEs to grow revenues and export, while tripling the number of SMEs exporting.
A monitoring, evaluation, and learning strategy (MEL) was put in place to measure and tract success of the intervention. With a total population of 57,000 people in Greenland, some of the project results are the following:
